- Ukyo_rulz a écrit:
- Sup guys. I just wanted to get your input on a format that my local playgroup and I are working on and have been playing with for the past couple of months. I am exposing our work to the scrutiny of the greater VS System community so that I can get more suggestions and help on this.
With Marvel Evolution being the last VS System set, it seems kinda silly to have our tournament structure still follow the Golden/Silver/Modern model, which is tied to set releases. There won't be any more sets released, so GA/SA/MA is now obsolete. What I am trying to do here, is come up with a different structure that can still preserve the old GA/SA/MA feel as much as possible.
What I noticed is that although the different formats are actually restricted by set release schedules, most people tend to think of them in terms of power level. GA is the broken format, with great power (and great responsibility). SA is the mid-level format, strong but not broke. MA is the most "fair" format, where decks can exist that would never make the grade in the other formats.
So let's restrict our formats by power level! smile
My idea is to have each team be classified within a bunch of "classes" which correspond to perceived power level. I initially thought that we could still restrict by set, but that makes it hard to make decks for teams that span multiple sets (like X-Men) or weaker teams that happened to be in the same set as more powerful teams (like Negative Zone).
So here is my proposed new tournament Structure, starting with the most powerful going down (cards in lower classes are also legal for all higher classes):
Special Level X: No banned cards.
Special Level S: Overload is legal Dr. Light is legal
Level A (cards): Omnipotence Pathetic Attempt Crisis on Infinite Earths, Team-Up Superhuman Registration Act, Team-Up Fate Artifacts Lex Luthor, Metropolis Mogul Human Torch, Herald Mr. Sinister, Visionary Geneticist
Level A (teams): Brotherhood Checkmate Doom Exiles Kree Marvel Knights Spider-Friends Teen Titans
Level B: -Mental trait Anti-Matter Avengers Darkseid's Elite Fantastic 4 Green Lanterns Hellfire Club Heralds of Galactus Inhumans Injustice Gang JLA Marvel Defenders S.H.I.E.L.D. Secret Society Sentinels Skrull Squadron Supreme Thunderbolts Underworld Villains United Warbound X-Factor X-Force X-Men
Level C: -Energy trait B.P.R.D. Birds of Prey Crime Lords Gotham Knights Illuminati JLI JSA League of Assasins Morlocks Negative Zone Outsiders Purifiers Revenge Squad Runaways Shadowpact Sinister Syndicate Team Superman X-Statix
Level D: -Physical trait Alpha Flight Arkham Inmates Deathstroke Doom Patrol Emerald Enemies Fearsome 5 Future Foes Infinity Watch Kang Council Legionnaires Manhunters Marauders Masters of Evil New Gods Rann Shi'Ar Speed Force Starjammers Thanagar Thule Society United Front Weapon X Wild Pack
* When a card is eligible for multiple levels, the lowest level is used (ie. a character dual-affiliated to Weapon X and SHIELD is Level D, not B ).
* Global team-up decks will have the level of the team-affiliation that the global team-up grants. So Crisis is A, for example, but Government Sponsored is C.
* The above format is not a "hard", strictly enforced format. Exceptions can be made in reasonable circumstances (ie. you should be able to play "no breakthrough" Squadron deck on much lower levels than listed above).

| I don't like it.
The concept is not that bad in theory, but the restrictions are going to reflect the understanding of the game, and the preference, of the group of people in charge. I trust the council, but I don't want to play the game they like: I want to play the game I like.
I like the Golden Age. I think the format has some problem (And we ask the council to listen to us for some additional ban, to fix these problems), but I don't think it's the shit format everyone on the English forum think it is.
The format system we have right now is amazing. Alternative format like BYOTT or BYOS are very good if you want to restrain the metagame to a more fair place, and I don't see the point in change the structure just because some player (That never play golden anyway) think golden age is broken.
Moreover... when we ask for some additional key banning, some time ago, the council said that they don't want to change the format cause the people that don't read the online forum could have problem during the tournament. And now this?
